Sometimes called “The Pearl of the South Bay,” Manhattan Beach spreads across 3.88 square miles, including 2.1 miles of beach, 40 acres of which are for recreational use. Only 19 miles from downtown Los Angeles, the neighborhood sits at the southern edge of Santa Monica Bay to the north of Hermosa Beach and the west of Redondo Beach. One of South Bay’s three beach cities, it has an estimated population of 35,610 as of the 2020 census.
Perhaps best known for its beach pier, residents can enjoy skating, biking, year-round fishing, delicious food, and exciting nightlife along the dock. The pier is 928 feet long and begins on one end of Manhattan Beach Boulevard. Manhattan Beach also provides various opportunities for live music, such as Fishbar, El Tarasco, and El Porto. The affluent beach city is one of the country’s most luxurious coastal areas, with fun and excitement for everyone.

Tucked away in North Manhattan Beach,
El Porto is thought to have the most consistent waves in the area. It is an excellent place for any surfer to ride the waves, especially during the winter and fall. Held annually in Polliwog Park, the Manhattan Beach Concerts in the Park is a fun way to enjoy the summer.
For shopping, dining, and holiday music, Pier Lighting and Holiday takes place each year, officially beginning the holiday season. Downtown Manhattan Beach offers live entertainment as the streets glow with a lighted street banner and snowflake lights. Another community activity, Shakespeare by the Sea, has been going on since 1998. The art organization is dedicated to enriching the community through the timeless stories of Shakespeare.
Spreading over 18 acres and one of the largest, prettiest parks in the area,
Polliwog Park provides play areas, a disc golf course, and an amphitheater. The heart of the park is the large pond and the natural wildlife refuge nearby. The amphitheater overlooks the pond, making it a beautiful spot for any special occasion, from concerts to weddings.
Live Oak Park is one of the oldest parks in the city, covering nine acres and featuring a dog run, picnic areas, tennis courts, a lighted basketball court, two lighted fields, and a playground.
